One of South America’s awe-inspiring sights, Iguazú Falls – the largest waterfall system in the world, is a must-see! The Falls span across Argentina and Brazil, with each side offering completely unique vistas – the Argentinian side allows you to get right into the heart of the thundering Devil’s Throat cascade, with many other walkways and viewing platforms to explore.
Set against the stunning snow-capped mountains of the Andés, Mendoza is world-famous for its red wines (most notably the Malbec) and beautiful vineyards. This pleasant city also offers a number of boutique cafes, leafy plazas and bustling markets to explore.
Head to the rolling pampas (flat grassy plains) to visit the iconic estancias (ranch houses); home to the legendary gauchos (Argentinian cowboys). After an exhausting day riding horseback, return to the stables and dine on succulent steaks with the owners and their family.
For incredible wildlife viewing, head south to the windswept Peninsula Valdes to spot Southern right whales, orcas and penguins. Also, the remarkable ecosystem of the Iberá wetlands are home to a wide variety of wildlife including caiman, capybara and a large number of birds.
Argentina’s Lake District is a picturesque region where blue lakes are bordered by forested mountains. The alpine town of Bariloche has a gorgeous setting on the edge of Lake Nahuel Haupi and many outdoor activities are available here.
Further south lies the jaw-dropping scenery of Patagonia (check out our dedicated page). The small adventure town of El Chaltén is often referred to as the ‘trekking capital of Argentina’. Along with neighbouring El Calafate, they are the gateway to the incredible Los Glaciares National Park, home to dramatic icefalls, turquoise lakes and the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier.
