JAW-DROPPING LANDSCAPES

Torres Del Paine, Chile

Torres del Paine National Park, with its iconic granite towers, is one of the most popular destinations in Patagonia. It is most famous for the W Trek, which offers incredible views of the towering peaks of Las Torres, the beautiful Franch Valley, turquoise lakes and the Grey Glacier. After a long hike, spend your evenings in a campsite or refugio (cabin) along the route. The region also offers opportunities to kayak around icebergs and horseback ride across windswept pampa.

Los Glaciares, Argentina

356 glaciers tumble into icy blue lakes in Argentina's most famous park. Hikers flock here to explore the Fitz Roy massif, thrill-seekers sail up to the wall of Perito Moreno Glacier. Others seek the solitude and long sunsets of remote estancias, where the views stretch for miles and the only sound is the wind rustling across the pampa. The nearby hiker town of El Chaltén has been a hotspot for trekkers for many years and is the self-proclaimed "Trekking Capital of the World" - it is a great spot to share tales with fellow trekkers and for a good night's sleep before another day of exploration.

When to go

The main trekking season runs from November to February. This is when temperatures are warmer and flowers are in bloom. March and April offer cooler temperatures but with beautiful autumn colours and fewer crowds, this is a great time to visit. However, the weather in Patagonia can be very unpredictable throughout the year as it can change at a moments notice from sunny and high winds to heavy rain. It is best to be prepared for all weather extremes.
