STUNNING BEACHES & UNIQUE LANDSCAPES
Manila is the gateway to the glorious beach resorts, but we highly recommend stopping a few nights in this bustling megacity. It is an enchanting mix of old and new, from the modern skyscrapers, swanky shopping malls and trendy restaurants and bars, to the delightfully preserved Spanish colonial city centre.
If you are here to relax then there are a wealth of islands to choose from (over 7,000 in fact), all offering dazzling white sands, emerald waters and five-star accommodations. Cebu is the most developed island with a lively nightlife and fascinating history, but most visitors come for the fantastic resorts and spas on nearby Mactan Island.
A short boat ride away from Cebu is the beautiful island of Bohol, home to the unusual landscapes of the Chocolate Hills and the adorable tarsiers, the smallest primates in the world. Nearby Panglao Island offers yet more stunning beaches and coral reefs.
Boracay is best known for its picture-perfect White Beach, with its soft glimmering sands, turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs, it is a haven for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts. Recently closed due to over-tourism, the island is now cleaner and quieter with a number of fantastic bars and restaurants along the beachfront.
The paradise island of Palawan is renowned for its natural splendours, with imposing cliffsides, secluded bays and a rare subterranean river beneath limestone caves. El Nido boasts some of the top beaches in the world - kayaking through beautiful lagoons and reefs under towering limestone karsts is definitely one for the bucket list.
We haven’t even mentioned the incredible island of Coron – a favourite for divers, or surfers’ paradise Siargao. There’s simply so much to do here that the trick lies in understanding what you simply can’t afford to miss.
One place we haven’t mentioned is the charming beachside village of Port Barton, Palawan. This was one of our favourite places in the Philippines, a truly under-developed beach town, with pristine sands and laid-back bars. The burgers we had at the Reef Café are probably the best burgers we have ever had!
