Beautiful Cape Town
Personally speaking, Cape Town is probably our favourite city in the world! There is so much to see and do, not to mention the fabulous weather and the stunning backdrop of Table Mountain. Whether you’re after a relaxing beach break, amazing hikes and trails, or to take in the nations favourite historical sights, there is something for everyone in this great city.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY IN AFRICA
A trip to the top of Table Mountain is a certain must. You can either hike up the side with a number of different trails, such as the novice-friendly Platteklip Gorge or take the quick route via the cable car system, just be sure to check the weather conditions. The views from atop are simply incredible overlooking the entire city of Cape Town as well as the beachside towns of Clifton and Camps Bay.
Speaking of Camps Bay – this was certainly our favourite place to stay with a number of boutique guesthouses and amazing views of the Twelve Apostles mountain range. A sophisticated beach promenade of fabulous bars and restaurants; this is the perfect place for al fresco dining or evening sundowners.
On the other side of Table Mountain is the leafy suburb of Newlands where you can explore the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens or catch an actioned packed game at the iconic Newlands Cricket Ground – one of the most picturesque cricket stadiums in the world.
Cape Town is also a great base for one or multi-day excursions. Take a boat over to the historical Robben Island, a former prison and leper colony, most notable for housing Nelson Mandela and many other political prisoners. What is extraordinary about this prison turned museum, is that the tour guides are the former prisoners themselves, who share their own incredible memories from the island. Head back to the buzzing tourist hub of the V&A Waterfront, with a plethora of fantastic shops, restaurants and hotels.
Only an hour’s drive east is the incredible Cape Winelands, and the picturesque vineyards and intimate wineries of Stellenbosch and Franschoek – a popular choice for families, couples and locals alike. Hop on the charming Franschoek Wine Tram for tastings at a number of nearby wine estates.
Drive (or even cycle) south via the visibly jaw-dropping Chapmans Peak to the Cape of Good Hope. From there, a short walk up to Cape Point and a fantastic observation area overlooking the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean’s. Enjoy the winding journey back via Simon’s Town, visiting Boulders Beach and its colony of African Penguins.
For a real experience of a lifetime that is sure to get the adrenaline pumping, head to Hermanus for some shark diving – the ‘Great White Shark’ capital of the world!
Another slightly quieter panoramic viewpoint is atop of Lion’s head. It’s a less strenuous hike but offers equal, if not more rewarding views of Cape Town as well as Table Mountain itself.
