Chile’s most popular national Park – Torres Del Paine is dominated by three towering peaks; Torre Central, Torre Sur and Torre Norte. It is also home to the spectacular French Valley, turquoise lakes and the Grey Glacier. The most famous of all hikes here is the W Trek – a multi-day trek through awe-inspiring landscapes with relaxing stays in comfortable log cabins (option to camp under the stars also available).
Across the border and a reasonably short drive into neighbouring Argentina (roughly 4-5 hours), the small, buzzy town of El Calafate is a fantastic base to explore the spectacular Los Glaciares National Park – home to 47 glaciers; the most famous being the jaw-dropping Perito Moreno Glacier. The serrated peak of Mount Fitz Roy dominates the sweeping Patagonian skyline – close to the ‘trekking capital of the world’ - El Chaltén. Trekking here will involve day hikes of various difficulties on well-marked trails through spectacular scenery (guided hikes also available).
At the southernmost end of Patagonia is the Chilean Tierra del Fuego and is best explored via a fantastic cruise. Sail from Punta Arenas through countless Chilean fjords and austral channels offering 3-to-4-night journeys to the northern and southern ice fields, including the spectacular San Rafael Glacier. Sail across the Strait of Magellan in search of humpback whales, and around the southern tip of the continent to the infamous Cape Horn before docking in the southernmost city in the world - Ushuaia.
